Here are governance’s arenas of responsibility for DEI - where boards need to own the vision and philosophy for DEI, practice their DEI fluency and cultural competency skills, plan for the structures and systems that their organizations (and the board itself) will need in order to realize their vision, and assess for organizational growth and their own impacts as leaders:
And while boards are “not supposed to be operational,” they must be strategic and operational stewards of DEI internally. Boards will need to deploy their strategic capacity to design DEI and cultural competency into their own systems, structures and everyday practices.
